For the seventh straight year, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are back in the AFC Championship game.
After beating the Houston Texans in the divisional round last weekend, Josh Allen and the Bills are the only obstacles standing in the way of the Chiefs advancing to the Super Bowl for the third straight year.
And with two wins Kansas City will be the first team to three-peat, something no team has ever done in NFL history.
Mahomes is already considered one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play this game.
The 6x Pro Bowler is a 3x Super Bowl champion and 3x Super Bowl MVP. He also has two regular season MVPs and has been named All-Pro twice.
Yet there’s still one person staring down at him- Tom Brady.
Most believe that Brady is the greatest football player in history. He’s won seven Super Bowls, five Super Bowl MVPs and three regular-season MVPs.
Yet despite all of his accomplishments, Brady never three-peated.
If Patrick can win a ring this year, particularly as the underdog, it will be very hard not to say that he passed Brady as the greatest quarterback and player in NFL history.
Winning four rings in eight years is unprecedented.
The Chiefs battled through injuries all season and they didn’t resemble the dominant Chiefs of the past.
Yet despite all the obstacles and challenges, one thing remained constant and that’s number 15. Even with a depleted offensive core, Mahomes has led this team to a 15-2 record which was the best in the AFC.
Josh Allen is the next challenge for Mahomes and the Chiefs, but if they beat the Bills, advance to Super Bowl LIX and win, the Chiefs and Mahomes will go down in history, the latter being recognized as the greatest to ever do it.
