As the arguments for and against the Covid-19 vaccinations continue, Netflix US has announced that cast and crew members must be vaccinated if they want to earn their paychecks.
According to Deadline, the streaming giant recently notified production teams that it would require casts and crew working in “Zone A” of the new mandate. Netflix intends on making few exceptions to the new vaccination policy, with exclusions including age, medical, and religious reasons.
Netflix is not the only tech company to issue a vaccine mandate.
Facebook also stated that it would require U.S. workers returning to its offices to be vaccinated.
“As our offices reopen, we will be requiring anyone coming to work at any of our US campuses to be vaccinated,” VP of People Lori Goler said in a statement released Wednesday. “How we implement this policy will depend on local conditions and regulations.”
Google made a similar announcement on the same day.
“We are excited that we’ve started to re-open our campuses and encourage Googlers who feel safe coming to sites that have already opened to continue doing so,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in an email to employees. “At the same time, we recognize that many Googlers are seeing spikes in their communities caused by the Delta variant and are concerned about returning to the office.”
The country has seen a hike in cases across all 50 states as the more Delta variant continues to spread. The Delta variant is more contagious than the original strain of the virus, leading to the CDC advising citizens to wear a mask outdoors even if they have been vaccinated.
