Reached for the Handshake, Got a Snub

In a not surprising, yet disgusting enough to be shocking, move on Jan. 6 of this year, Senator Deb Fischer’s husband decided against shaking Vice President Kamala Harris’ hand during her swearing-in ceremony.

Even with a few years left on his clock, Bruce Fischer decided that being evil on the way out was the best way to get into heaven.

Right on cue, many God-fearing Republicans staunchly defended the bigotry Bruce committed while standing next to his wife being sworn in with a BIBLE. Bruce’s supporters justified his snub by claiming he was unable to shake her hand because he was using a cane; fortunately, he was able to stand erect enough to shake Mike Pence’s and Joe Biden’s hands in his wife’s previous swear-ins.

Republican Senator Deb Fischer’s husband Bruce Fischer is a complete asshole. He could’ve shook VP Harris’ hand. I got racist vibes galore from watching that single interaction. pic.twitter.com/ujh3toiymq

There is little known about Bruce Fischer because he is a nobody. However, Deb, even in her over 10-year career as a state senator, is still so overwhelmingly unremarkable that her husband being a misogynist is the biggest moment of her life. However, even with her lack of pizzazz, she still has a voting record, and, oh boy, is she a gem.  Like many far-right Christian politicians who do not believe that women should control their own bodies (even though she gets to have a job that dictates what other women should do with their bodies), Debbie Downer is against abortion in all cases, including rape and incest.

So basically, you gotta have that baby with your brother if he rapes you.

Were it not for her doing the lord’s work by regulating uteruses but not guns (because who needs to protect school kids when you can just force women to make more against their will), Bruce probably would not even let her out of the house.  Lucky for us, the moral majority will occasionally mingle with us common folk, flaunting their racism, sexism, and power, even while in subordinate positions, because really, who the fuck are you? Can you imagine the Black wife of a senator refusing to shake hands with the Vice President, not because he is actually a bad person but because he isn’t? Can you imagine the uproar that would cause?

In October of last year, Fischer xweeted on the website X, owned by President Elon Musk, about the Biden-Harris administration’s policies erroneously focusing on DEI and climate change. Deb Fischer has a BS in education from the University of Nebraska; she has not been educated beyond that. Vice President Kamala Harris has a BA from Howard and a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. Politicians are almost guaranteed to be scrutinized beyond normal wear and tear once they decide to enter a race; however, Kamala and Black candidates receive an immense amount of racism from Republicans, who coincidentally are the same party that presents itself as the moral standard while being led by a fraudster rapist.

Additionally, Bruce’s move was not only racist and sexist as f*ck, he also took all the shine away from his wife, whose politics are indeed sh*tty—but if you are going to support her sh*tty ass politics, you should support her too, no? But alas, being a racist was much more important to Bruce than letting his wife have her moment.

Bruce’s lack of class was a metaphor for this country; people would rather harm themselves and overlook their best interests in order to be sh*tty and racist.

🚨 UPDATE: Went back to 2013—when VP Biden swore in Deb Fischer, her husband Bruce shook his hand, laughed, and played along—just like he did with Pence.

But with Harris? No handshake, no conversation, and he kept his distance.

    The difference isn’t subtle—it’s clear what’s… https://t.co/MWiGGtNFqO pic.twitter.com/f2s45BOpMN

Even in the face of indignity by someone whose face looks like it was rapidly aged by his indignant racism, Kamala Harris still smiled, still wore the f*ck out of that business suit, and stood on business in a world that is begging her to crumble under the weight of its stupidity.

It’s a good thing Kamala did not get to shake his hand, though; there were probably no wet wipes readily available to wipe the slime off her hands.
