July 6 of this year will mark Ciara and Russell Wilson’s eighth wedding anniversary; they have survived the dreaded seventh-year itch and don’t seem to have any plans to stop loving each other out loud anytime soon. However, that has not stopped the haters and it seems the longer they love on each other, the more unhappy people get.
Since their courtship went public, social media users of the two-digit I.Q. demographic have frequently referred to Ciara as a gold digger and to Wilson as a simp. These claims have only been heightened by Wilson having the audacity to love Future’s son as his own. What’s wild is that people have more smoke for Wilson, blurring the line between great step-dad and great dad than Future’s lack of involvement in his children’s lives.
Men’s biggest problem with Russell Wilson isn’t how he treat Lil Future it’s how he treats Ciara.

He is suspected of having approximately eight children with eight different women.
Those same people who demonize the Wilsons’ relationship are mum about Future being irresponsible with his genitalia. They hate the couple because they don’t believe that single Black mothers, whether they were raised by one or not, are deserving of a happy ending.
Ciara did most things right.
She came out the gate preaching chastity, hell her first hit was a thinly-veiled ode to virginity. A pretty girl with an athletic frame and stellar dance skills, she showed skin, but not too much, playfully toeing the line between virgin and vixen. Her girl-next-door appeal was much more concrete than her millennial peers’, whose youth and sensualness were played up in a way that often felt forced. Ciara was billed as the girl who could steal your man, but only on accident. With many of her hits featuring extremely popular rappers, guys may not have told their girlfriends to play her music, but they weren’t immediately telling them to turn it off, either. Her dating history included a teenage romance with Shad Moss, aka (Lil Bow Wow), and two other celebrities besides her ex-fiancé and husband. Ciara has never been involved in any memorable controversy, and while people are not allowed to like her artistry or even personality, there is nothing particularly egregious she has done other than move on and be happy.
FACTS. Mandem seem more obsessed with pouring scorn on Russell Wilson for being an exemplary stepfather, than chastising Future for more than likely being negligent father. It’s ridiculous. https://t.co/qHSHwlTNuz

She is a good Christian wife who, after giving birth to four children, has maintained her physique and desirability in the same manner that men almost demand of women whose bodies have undergone the extreme transformation that comes with childbirth, as if it is something easy to do.
Her biggest and really only derailment from the path of what a ‘good woman’ looks like was her relationship with Future, the man who also asked her to marry him. Ciara broke up with Future over his infidelity and never looked back.
In order to justify their insatiable need to hate the couple, people have even used Wilson’s clothing choices as reasoning that the couple’s love is nothing but a charade. Even though she had amassed her own wealth before either relationship, she was still viewed with the same stereotypical lenses that view single Black mothers as a drain on the community. Ciara went into both relationships as a star in her own right, with her own money, her own career and undeniable beauty. A woman who checks all the boxes; the rules changed once she offended fans of the emo lack of accountability that pours out of Future’s auto-tune distorted vocals.
You root for who you want to be or who you see yourself in.
While being a multi-millionaire dollar pro-football player, with a Super Bowl ring on one hand and a wedding ring that signifies a union with a gorgeous R&B princess on the other, would be a logical role model in this scenario, that is not the case. Too many men see themselves in an emotionally irresponsible 40-year-old rapper with enough children to make his own football team and a bevy of bad bitches he’s harmed in the process. They root for Future because they want to be him: a man with many lovers but not actual love.
If Wilson and his ex-wife had children and his ex-wife was an inactive parent, not only would Ciara be expected to take on the role of dutiful (step) mother, but she would be chastised if she did not. Wilson, on the other hand, is chastised for taking on the role of father (figure) to all the children who live in his home full time, even though Ciara and Wilson started dating when baby Future was a year old. In a community that looks down on single mothers and swears that they cannot effectively raise boys into men, it is those same people who are upset that someone else is.
There is no winning for single Black mothers.
Women are told to choose better and when they do, it is still not enough. There is no satisfying their own arbitrary standards. They are much bigger fans of swag than handling responsibilities while still chiding women for not wanting to date men like Russ.
A Super Bowl Champion and an R&B star with a beautiful churchgoing family should be a glowing example of Black love, but unfortunately, the rapper’s fans’ love for the unrepentant low-life is all the dark love and affection that matters.
