Patrick Surtain Jr.
School: University of Alabama
Position: Cornerback
One of the most hyped recruits in the country, Surtain is the son of former All-Pro Dolphins’ corner Patrick Surtain. The younger Surtain is a long athlete who was dominant in high school. He’s already been called one of the best cornerback prospects in recent memory.
Surtain Jr. had a notable recruiting process as well, originally expected to join LSU as the next in a long line of fantastic defensive backs. Yet he chose to switch his commitment to Alabama, which comes at a perfect time as all five major contributors to Alabama’s defensive backfield now reside on NFL rosters.
There is plenty of talent ready to take over for Saban’s defense, but Surtain is expected to immediately find his way into the starting lineup and become the marquee member of the Crimson Tide’s secondary.
Also watch Tyson Campbell at Georgia. He isn’t quite as hyped as Surtain, but has established himself as the Alabama freshman’s biggest rival as a cornerback prospect. However, earning a spot in the Georgia defensive backfield won’t be as easy job to win. Caden Stearns is another highly-touted prospect who will see the field as a safety for Texas. He might not start from week one, Stearns is too talented not to have a role for the Longhorns.
