Grammy award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion recently showed support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
At Vice President Harris’s first presidential campaign rally in Atlanta, Megan Thee Stallion performed a series of hit songs, including “Savage,” “Girls in the Hood” and “Body.”
Before performing the latter, the rapper encouraged the women in the crowd to “make some noise if they love their bodies and want to keep loving their bodies,” likely referring to a number of women’s rights that are being threatened by the Trump administration including abortion rights.
During the event, Megan Thee Stallion debuted a new slogan for her fans and the campaign- Hotties for Harris.
“We’re about to make history with the first female president,” said the award-winning artist at the performance, per Rolling Stone. “The first Black female president! Let’s get this done!”
Rapper Quavo also partook in the event, showing support for the vice president. Previously, he worked closely alongside Harris on gun laws after Migos group member and his nephew, Takeoff, was killed.
“One thing I learned about working with Vice President Harris is she always stands on business. From inviting me to the White House last year to discuss these solutions to passing the biggest gun safety laws today,” said Quavo at the event per Variety. “So it’s only right in the birthplace of the culture, it’s also the same place that launched the first African-American woman to run for president.”
During the same night, former president Donald Trump took to making derogatory remarks about Vice President Harris’ biracial background, claiming he didn’t know “she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black.”
When ABC News’ Rachel Scott, who was one of the three moderators at the National Association of Black Journalists, pointed out that Harris attended HBCU Howard, Trump had nothing to say.
Previously, Trump has perpetuated “birther” conspiracy theories. Although former President Barack Obama was born in the U.S. state of Hawaii and Vice President Harris was born in California, he has claimed that the former president wasn’t born in the U.S. and that Harris doesn’t meet the requirements for the role.
The remarks from Trump come as a new Reuters/Ipsos poll reported that Vice President Harris is currently in the lead. While Trump was found to be supported by 42% of voters, Harris received the backing of 43% of the registered voters.
“We have a fight in front of us,” said Vice President Harris at the rally, per PBS. “The momentum in this race is shifting. And there are signs Donald Trump is feeling it.”
