What began as an idea to combat hot flashes has since evolved into a viable femtech business with the creation of the Thermaband Zone. The Black-owned Thermaband Zone is a wearable thermostat that uses AI technology to detect changes in your body’s temperature and it was created by a dynamic mother-daughter duo.

Co-founder and CEO, Debbie Dickinson, Esq., is an experienced attorney and entrepreneur. Dickinson partnered with her daughter, Markea, who serves as the COO of the company. Markea Dickinson previously worked with the company Unilever in a variety of roles before joining her mother in business.

Debbie began to have hot flashes at the age of 51 and says that she was not prepared for the experience. However, that prompted her to begin her search for a solution. She noted that her “desperation led to partnering with women, physicians and engineers to create a smart bracelet that cools my body down!” The battery-powered band instantly cools or warms the temperature-sensitive skin on the inside of your wrist which sends a signal to your brain and affects one’s overall physical comfort.

The Thermaband Zone was co-created with a community of over 600 women and has been extensively tested to ensure that the product is safe and reliable for all users. It has the support of medical professionals including “Madame Overy,” also known as Dr. Mary Minkin, a certified menopause clinician. Dr. Minkin expressed her approval and excitement for the technology due to its “anonymized data to advance menopausal research” as well as its temperature regulation benefits that are usable for her cancer patients who are limited from other options.

Users are able to glean insights from assessing the Zone App. The app provides information on what’s happening when you get hot or cold. It tracks for frequency and duration of hot flashes and night sweats while also alerting a user to certain triggers and trends. The information tracked by the band can be shared with an individual’s doctor and provide them with a deeper understanding of what a patient may be experiencing.

The technology currently features five levels of cooling and warming and an option for automatic or manual relief. The band is both replaceable and water resistant with two color options (onyx and pearl). Interested customers can pre-order their Thermaband Zone in a small, medium or large, and the company offers customers the flexibility of paying in full or leaving a deposit. The purchase also includes a 6 month Zone app subscription.
