On Tuesday morning, thousands of Meta users attempted to log into their accounts, only to be informed that their “session has expired” on their Facebook, Instagram and Threads accounts.
DownDetector.com reports that the technical difficulties began around 10 a.m. ET. Many users were unable to access their accounts and a pop-up informing them said, “Something went wrong. Please try again.”

“Facebook crashed while attempting to censor content about it’s own crash. It inceptioned itself,” a Facebook user commented on DownDetector.com.
Some social media users say that Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp has also been affected.
“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone wrote on X, formerly Twitter, this morning.

The outage could not come at a worse time, as the Super Tuesday presidential primaries kicked off today. Sixteen states and one territory will hold their presidential nominations.
