A former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris is calling on President Joe Biden to step down so that Harris can serve briefly as the first female president.
“Joe Biden’s been a phenomenal president. He’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made. There’s one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure,” Jamal Simmons said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris President of the United States—It would absolve her from having to oversee the January 6th transition of her own defeat. And it would make sure, it would dominate the news, at a point where Democrats have to learn, drama and transparency and doing things the public want to see. This is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate.”
Donald Trump was declared the winner over Harris on Nov. 5 after he secured the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House. His final total is expected to be 312 votes to Harris’ 226.
Simmons believes Biden giving Harris a chance to be the 47th president of the U.S. “would disrupt all of Donald Trump’s paraphernalia.”
It is just 70 days until Trump’s inauguration.
Trump announced that Susie Wiles, his campaign co-chair, would be his chief of staff. Wiles would be the first woman in U.S. history to serve in this role. There is still much speculation as to who Trump will install to fill other top administration roles.
