DJ Envy’s Halloween Video Deserves a Big ‘BOOOOOO’

Yesterday was Halloween, and as time presses on, what once was a holiday for children going door-to-door in search of sweets has evolved or devolved into one of America’s favorite holidays and arguably the most debaucherous of them all. Some of the best parts of the holiday’s evolution are the innovation, inventiveness, and creativity that people bring more of each year, even adding extravagant photo shoots to cement the moments. Some even do entire video shoot for their costumes, however some of those shoots, entirely miss the mark.

This is where DJ Envy enters the chat.

The former Sugar Daddy of Erica Mena (before she was married, he was married, though) recently dropped a video tribute to the classic Lil Cease song feat. Lil Kim, “Crush On You.” This seems like a totally fine idea; what could go wrong?

DJ Envy is just serving his CHILD up on a platter to perverts. He’s such a stupid bitch, that it’s mind boggling.

Well, Lil Kim, who raps the lyrics in the song, “I’ll be undressed in the bra, all see through….The only thing I wanna do is freak you,” is played, not by DJ Envy’s wife Gia, who is in the video, and listed as one of the directors in the credits, but by their eight-year-old daughter. Yes, that was not a typo; their eight-year-old daughter plays the scantily clad Lil Kim, including wearing a red bathing suit. Their daughter’s bathing suit is not as revealing as Kim’s, but is still a bit too close to the original concept, for comfort. Kim was not wearing the bathing suit to show off her swimming skills; she was wearing it to show off her body. That is not something a child should be emulating, and if there is any argument about Lil Kim’s intent to be sexy, the lyrics quickly quiet anything that could argue otherwise. Even though the child covers her mouth with her finger during the lyric, “freak you,” she still moves in a way that seems far too adult, far too appropriate for the role she is playing, and far too inappropriate for her. Her parents’ attempt at censorship during more sexual parts of the song, coincidentally are, still part of a completely tone-def and disturbing display.

While his daughter is fully mouthing along to “I’ll be doing things that you won’t regret,” seeing that the video is still up, it seems her father has yet to regret the decision to make and post the video, even with the clamoring of commentators and the 1700 bookmarks on X, formerly Twitter, of a video of his child, on X.

Not only did DJ Envy think this was a good idea, but so did his long-suffering wife, Gia. There is no one-size-fits-all rulebook to parenting, but common sense would tell you that your eight-year-old daughter cosplaying an intentionally sexy performance is not good parenting. His daughter is still in Kids Bop’s target demographic; this is not really music she should be listening to at all, let alone coyly putting her finger up to her mouth, signifying self-censorship during some of the more explicit parts of the verse. Kids should not, nor should they even be directed to, play like that. Even though she did it multiple times as a nod to censorship, she also placed her finger over her mouth when lip-syncing the lyric, “Just keep this on the hush” (something Lil Kim does not do in the original video).

It is problematic, even if subconsciously. Children should not be associated with sexiness/sex at all, and they definitely should not be associating sexiness/sex with secrecy.

DJ Envy, whose real name is RaaShaun Casey, is still barely floating in legal hot water and was not only sued civilly but is under investigation for fraud by the US District Attorney’s office in New Jersey. He has also recently come out in support of alleged serial rapist Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Specifically, on his podcast with his wife, Gia Casey, ‘The Casey Crew’ podcast, Envy stated that he needs to hear all the facts of the case before he passes judgment on a man who was filmed beating and dragging his now ex-girlfriend, when she tried to flee a forced sexual encounter, and can make a fair assessment. He does not think a man who was accused of witness tampering and intimidation should be denied bond. Referring to Diddy as a “freaky n*gga,” he justifies his stance by adding, “There is nothing wrong with being a freaky person, so the fact that he has a thousand bottles of baby oil and lube just means he likes to get sh*t popping, and there’s…nothing illegal about that.”

As recently as this week, Combs has been sued again, with one victim alleging that he was raped by Combs when he was only 10, adding to the list of minors alleged to have been assaulted by Combs, with Diddy’s youngest alleged victim having been assaulted at nine, a year older than Envy’s daughter.

DJ Envy, a grown ass man who calls women “whores” on his show, dressed his 9 year old daughter up in lingerie and had her rapping about sex, recorded her and then posted the video online for the entire world (including pedos) to see and sexualize his minor daughter. Most of the commenters have been angry over the video, but some have argued that the video is not that big of a deal or that there is nothing wrong with a child wearing a bathing suit pretending to rap, but that is a super reductive stance. At the end of the day, his child is portraying someone who absolutely made a significant cultural impact, but to deny that she has not used her sexuality to do so is completely absurd, especially in this video. The internet is not kind to children, not celebrity children, not regular children. The internet is a cesspool for nasty comments and, even worse, people.

Why didn’t DJ Envy’s wife dress as Lil Kim. 18k shares of your daughter dancing and dressed as Lil Kim and we are supposed to believe all of them are good people. We are failing the children. pic.twitter.com/DPi2i9kccm

There is nothing wrong with children dressing up as adults, but dressing up as adults who are not only performing sexually explicit lyrics but who are selling sex, even if just as a byproduct, is never ok. Children are assaulted without cosplaying adults, but allowing your child to dress up as an adult who is performing sexually explicit lyrics or in suggestive clothing and pantomiming adult movements or words is a set of parents, each worthy of the Donkey of the Day.
