Dave Sims Named New Radio Voice of the NY Yankees

Big news from the Bronx yesterday as veteran sports broadcaster Dave Sims is returning to New York City, this time as the new radio voice of the New York Yankees.

The Athletic reported that the team and radio partner WFAN were hiring Sims as the radio play-by-player, succeeding John Sterling, who retired after this past season at the age of 86.

Sims, a broadcast veteran who has called games across many sports, has spent the last 17 years in Seattle as the Mariners’ play-by-play announcer but had always wanted to return to New York, where he was a mid-day talk show host on WFAN from 1989 to 1993. He also called NY Knicks games in the mid-80s as well.

As expected, the always classy broadcast veteran thanked Mariners fans for welcoming him to their city.

“By now you’ve probably heard the news. I’m coming home to New York,” Sims said in a X message to Mariners fans. “I thoroughly enjoyed my 18 years in Seattle. I loved becoming part of Mariner nation in the Pacific Northwest. So many great memories, so many good people. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for having this interloper coming in and being part of your culture. I really enjoyed it and I wish everybody in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest all the best as we move forward. Go Mariners and Go Yankees.”

Sims will call Yankees games with Suzyn Waldman in the upcoming 2025 season as the team looks to return to and capture its first World Series since 2009.
