In only two short seasons, Deion Sanders has transformed Colorado in a way no ever has, and as a result, the university has rewarded him with a five-year, $54 million extension.

    — Colorado Buffaloes Football (@CUBuffsFootball) March 28, 2025

This afternoon, the Buffaloes announced that Coach Prime agreed to the massive extension that not only keeps him in Boulder through 2029, but which also puts him in the upper salary tier in college football.

“Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power,” said Colorado Athletic Director Rick George in a statement. “This extension not only recognizes Coach’s incredible accomplishments transforming our program on and off the field, it keeps him in Boulder to compete for conference and national championships in the years to come.”

Sanders inherited a 1-11 program that hadn’t had a winning season since 2016 and in his second season, he led the team to a 9-4 record and an Alamo Bowl appearance.

It extended his young yet successful coaching career that began at Jackson State, where he went 27-5 in three seasons.

Since arriving in Boulder, he has transformed the program and campus while driving revenue and ratings and making the school a media and celebrity hotbed.

Basically wherever he goes, it’s must-see TV.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to continue building something special here at Colorado,” said Coach Prime. “We’ve just scratched the surface of what this program can be. It’s not just about football; it’s about developing young men who are ready to take on the world. I’m committed to bringing greatness to this university, on and off the field. We’ve got work to do, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but here, making history with these incredible players and this passionate fan base. Lastly, anybody got at least a five-bedroom home with acreage for sale?”

Sanders’ deal, which makes him one of the 10 highest paid coaches in the sport, will pay him at $10 million in 2025-26, $11 million in 2027-28 and $12 million in 2029, as per the Boulder Daily Camera.

With that salary, he can have all the acreage he needs to surround his five-bedroom home.
