    Kaepernick, NFL Arrange Workout

It’s been nearly three years since Colin Kaepernick has taken a snap in an NFL game. But the quarterback and activist is reportedly hoping to impress teams in a private workout being scheduled for Saturday in Atlanta.

According to multiple reports, a memo was issued to clubs with details on the private session. Teams will have the opportunity to watch Kapernick throw on the field and answer questions after the workout. All 32 NFL teams are invited to attend, and a video of the workout and interview will be made available to those who do not take part in the event. The league reportedly helped arrange the session—allowing teams to determine Kapernick’s readiness to contribute. According to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche, staff members from the scouting combine, and former coaches will run Kaepernick’s workout.

Kaepernick last played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. It is a season that is notable for widespread player protests during the national anthem. The demonstrations were started by Kaepernick, who kneeled during all 16 regular-season games. The Niners QB cited systemic racism and police brutality as the reasons behind his protest. Kaepernick’s demonstrations angered some fans and league owners. He even drew the ire of President Donald Trump, who called for players who protested during the “Star-Spangled Banner” to be fired.

Kaepernick accused the NFL of colluding to keep him and former teammate Eric Reid out of the league because they decided to take a knee. Both men were paid an undisclosed amount of money in a settlement reached in February. Kaepernick continues to maintain that he would like an opportunity to return to playing football.

I’m just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday. I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday.

“I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years,” Kaepernick posted on Twitter. “I can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday.”
