NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Secures 1000 $50 World Cup Tickets for NYers

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani has been hard at work for the people of New York City, securing win after win to help the people of the five boroughs. On Thursday, he scored another big win, literally.

After announcing a series of World Cup watch parties across the city last month, today the Mayor announced he’s secured 1,000 $50 tickets to World Cup matches at Met Life stadium for New Yorkers.

1,000 World Cup tickets. $50 each. All for New Yorkers.

    — Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani (@NYCMayor) May 21, 2026

“Last year we said we’d fight for cheaper tickets for New Yorkers, and today I’m proud to announce, just like Arsenal, we got it done,” said Mamdani in his post today on X.

The deal was made directly between his office and the NY/NJ World Cup host committee. It keeps the Mayor’s promise and is the perfect response for soccer fans who have rightfully complained about the exorbitant cost of World Cup tickets priced by FIFA.

According to The Guardian, the tickets will be available through a lottery system that opens at 10am on Monday, May 25th and closes on Saturday, May 30th at 5pm ET. 50,000 daily entries will be allowed and winners will be allowed to buy a maximum of two tickets each. Most impressively, the tickets include bus transportation to and from the event, which addresses the transportation issue stinging fans.

Approximately 150 tickets, all in the upper bowl, will be included per game in the seven games to be held in the stadium starting in June. The schedule includes the following games (the championship game at Met Life is not included in the ticket sweepstakes):

    June 13th- Brazil vs. Morocco

    June 16th- France vs Senegal

    June 22nd- Norway vs Senegal

    June 25th- Ecuador vs Germany

    June 27th- Panama vs England

June 30th- Round of 32 game

July 5th- Round of 16 game

A huge soccer (and Arsenal) fan himself, Mamdani previously spoke out against FIFA’s dynamic pricing structure, which has made attending the games unattainable for many.

“There’s just no chance for so many who love this game so much to actually be able to go and see this,” said the Mayor in September. “This also has a real impact on the potential for the atmosphere of the World Cup and just how many fans will actually be there. Because so often the people who get the tickets quickest are not the ones who are actually the most eager to be there. They’re the ones who are the most excited at the prospect of a profit.”

Once again, it’s Mamdani for the win!
