The Karen Hunter Show took on a volatile topic with comedian, actor and political commentator John Fugelsang, digging into the reasons why some conservative men date and marry immigrant women. Hunter played a clip from social media commentator Kylie Brewer that sparked a viral conversation about power, insecurity and gender politics.

In the clip played by Hunter, Brewer argues that certain conservative men seek relationships that give them maximum control.

“Men do not see their wives as people,” she said. “They see them as an extension of themselves, someone that they want to control completely and totally.”

Brewer claimed that marrying immigrant women, particularly those with limited social networks or language fluency, can create isolation that makes leaving a relationship far more difficult. She referenced high-profile examples, including Donald Trump, whose wife, Melania, is from Slovenia, as evidence.

Hunter said the commentary connected dots for her, especially across racial lines, noting that similar dynamics appear in other communities, including among men who present themselves as proof they “can’t be racist” because they date or marry women of color. “No, it’s just the opposite,” Hunter said. “It’s a power play.”

Fugelsang took the argument further, saying the behavior is rooted in insecurity rather than strength.

“It is a power play by men with no power,” he said. “It’s weakness driving all of this.” He argued that many of these men are intimidated by women who are independent and outspoken. “They’d be terrified to walk up to an American woman,” Fugelsang said. “They can’t handle the free thinking of American women.”

The discussion also challenged romantic myths about marriage, reminding viewers that love-based unions are historically recent. Still, Fugelsang said modern relationships demand mutual respect. Seeking dependence instead of partnership, he argued, reflects fear. “They don’t want a strong woman,” he said. “They’re terrified of strong women.”

Watch the discussion unfold in the clip below.
