HS QB Who Lost Football Scholarship for Saying ‘N-Word’ From Rap Song Gets Offer From HBCU Albany St.

When we all last saw Marcus Stokes, he was having his football scholarship from Florida rescinded because he was seen on video repeating rap lyrics with the “N-word.”

The four-star quarterback made the mistake of repeating the song’s lyrics word for word and paid the price. It was a punishment he, to his credit, fully accepted.

“I deeply apologize for the words in the song that I chose to say,” wrote Stokes in a statement in November. “…I fully accept the consequences for my actions and I respect the University of Florida’s decision to withdraw my scholarship offer to play football.”

Now, a few months later, Stokes has received another scholarship offer.

This time it’s from Albany State, a DII HBCU program located in Georgia.

“It’s very unique. Very interesting,” said Stokes’ father about the offer. “We didn’t expect this at all.”

The Albany State Golden Rams are coached by Quinn Gray Sr. Coach Gray made the offer because Marcus is talented, he made a mistake and deserves a second chance.

One thing they will understand about coach Gray and the @ASUGoldenRamsFB family, we are in the business of changing lives and giving kids opportunities to live out their dreams!” tweeted Coach Gray. “We’ve all made mistakes in life and somebody gave us 2nd chances. So if God forgives why can’t we?!”

While Stokes hasn’t made his final decision yet, he’s definitely appreciative of Coach Gray’s offer.

We’ll know what happens soon as National Signing Day is right around the corner.
