Wellness Wednesday: Lala Milan’s ‘Fit Girl Bod’ Helps Women Gain Healthy Weight

Lala Milan, made famous for her gut-busting comedy videos on social media, ventured into the world of health of wellness with her platform Fit Girl Bod which empowers women to gain weight in a healthy way.

Fit Girl Bod has amassed quite the backing on Instagram with a follower count of 130,000 #FitGirlBaddies.

Milan, who calls her comedic content “free medicinal laughter,” is not joking when it comes to the importance of creating a safe space for women of all sizes to reach their fitness goals. The comedian turned actor was inspired by her own weight gain journey to create the platform.

“When women are slim, [people] assume that it doesn’t hurt their feelings to say certain things to them, such as, ‘What are you working out for?’ or ‘You need to eat.’ It’s equivalent to telling somebody, ‘You need to stop eating, you need to start working out,’” the 32-year-old entrepreneur told Essence. “They don’t realize that it has the same effect on a slim person as it would a thick person.”

In addition to posting exercises, Fit Girl Bod’s Instagram page boasts weight gain timelines, food recommendations and questions for followers.

Milan is furthering her reach in the health industry by releasing a line of menstrual products under the name Vagi-taminz. Originally slated to release in summer of 2021, consumers will have to wait for more information on the line which will include probiotics, suppositories and vaginal wash.

“Talking about vaginal issues is taboo and frowned upon. Just like gaining weight, I chose the two things that people are afraid to talk about,” said Milan in an interview with HYPEBAE. “I chose [to branch out into] vaginal health because vaginal issues happen to everybody with a vagina, and that’s a lot of people.”

Milan has also dabbled in podcasting. The last episode of her podcast The Salon released in October, closing out a 39-episode run with a host of guest stars from actor Rosanny Zayas to entrepreneur Shelly Bell.

On television, Milan plays Tia Reid on the BET series “Boomerang” and made appearances on TNT’s “Claws” and HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show.”
