UndocuBlack Submits Appeal to the Congressional Black Caucus to Support Black Immigrants By Pressing for Registry

As part of the ongoing push towards the insertion of registry in the Build Back Better bill, the UndocuBlack Network submitted its appeal to the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to support Black immigrants by pressing for registry, instead of parole — a temporary albeit ineffective solution.

The UndocuBlack Network is a membership-based organization that is more accountable directly to Black undocumented immigrants who would be impacted by parole and its inadequacy.

Black undocumented immigrants face unique challenges as they stand in intersecting oppression of being undocumented and Black. The Network called on the members of CBC to fight for registry and green card, since what is at stake for Black immigrants with the House stripping out the registry date update out of the Build Back Better Act is immense, and any immigration policy must address Black immigrants’ specific needs.

Black American leaders have historically played a pivotal role in the fight for freedom worldwide. The UndocuBlack Network is asking CBC members to continue leaning into that legacy by becoming more vocal champions for Black immigrants.

Many CBC members, including CBC leadership have signed a Nov. 22 letter to the Senate calling for a pathway to citizenship.

Please read and widely share the UndocuBlack Network’s open letter to the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) here.
