Daniel Kaluuya’s Buoyant Golden Globes Acceptance Speech Gets Choppy Start

On Sunday, British actor Daniel Kaluuya tried to deliver his acceptance speech after nabbing the Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture in the Shaka King-directed Hollywood flick, “Judas and the Black Messiah.”

But the speech almost didn’t happen thanks to technical difficulties… And the Golden Globes was to blame.

“You’re doing me dirty, you’re doing me dirty,” Kaluuya said light-heartedly after his audio feed failed.

The award was presented to him by Laura Dern. “As you can see, we unfortunately have a bad connection,” said Dern on stage. “We apologize for that technical problem and send all of our congratulations to Daniel and his Golden Globe win.”

The Globes eventually got their act together, and Kaluuya was able to speak about his experience of playing the radical revolutionary.

“I gave everything,” said Kaluuya of playing Fred Hampton, the murdered chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party. “The great Nipsey Hussle says, ‘We are here to give until we are empty,’ and I gave everything. I couldn’t give it to a more noble man — that’s chairman Fred Hampton — and I hope generations after this can see how brilliantly he fought, how brilliantly he spoke and how brilliantly he loved. He taught me about myself, made me grow as a man and I appreciate it with all my heart. And I hope people — there’s a lot of information about how he died, but I hope you people out there will grow and learn about how incredibly he lived. Thank you so much for this honor.”

“Judas & The Black Messiah” is available to stream on HBO Max.

    Congratulations, Daniel Kaluuya.
