Parler App Pulled Offline Following Apple, Google, Amazon Suspensions

The Parler application has been pulled offline after Apple, Amazon and Google suspended it over concerns that the app was being used to plot and incite acts of treason.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Shopify and several other online platforms suspended Trump and Trump-affiliated pages following the shocking displays of violence at Capitol Hill last week, which left five people dead and led to dozens of arrests.

Rioters were called on by Trump to rally against what he has repeatedly called a “rigged election.”

After the social media suspensions, Trumpers flocked to Parler in droves — but due to the app’s lack of moderation, several web services dropped it from their online stores.

“It’s clear that Parler does not have an effective process to comply with the AWS terms of service,” Amazon Web Services wrote in a letter to Parler per Buzzfeed News. “[W]e cannot provide services to a customer that is unable to effectively identify and remove content that encourages or incites violence against others.”

Dan Bongino complains that Parler getting booted offline, the result of private companies taking action, is somehow a violation of "the government subsidy" of Section 230 (???) pic.twitter.com/i97jqKjzN6

Parler CEO John Matze said the site would be offline for “up to a week” as the company searched for a new web host. By Monday morning, Matze was singing a different tune.

“We will likely be down longer than expected,” Matze reportedly wrote on his Parler profile. “This is not due to software restrictions — we have our software and everyone’s data ready to go. Rather it’s that Amazon’s, Google’s and Apple’s statements to the press about dropping our access has caused most of our other vendors to drop their support for us as well. And most people with enough servers to host us have shut their doors to us.”
