Can OKC retain Paul George?
Leonard isn’t the first star to recently voice a desire to play for the Lakers. In fact, some could say he is picking a play out of the “Paul George playbook.”
Last Summer, George reportedly told the Pacers he wanted to play with the Lakers and requested a trade out of Indiana. The Thunder took a chance on George, trading for the five-time all-star without a commitment he’ll sign long-term.
The team hoped a successful season playing alongside Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony could convince George to make Oklahoma City his new home. But after a disappointing season and early postseason exit, George will listen to pitches from teams in bigger markets before deciding on his future.
George is from the Los Angeles-area and will be pursued by the hometown Lakers. The Sixers could also make a play for him. George has played for small market teams his entire career. The additional $30 million OKC can offer George may not be enough to keep him away from the brighter lights of a big city.
