    5 Must-see Holiday Films to Cozy Up With This Christmas Eve

    Today marks Christmas Eve.

    In honor of the day, here are five movies starring Black lead actors to watch for the holidays. 

    1. Last Holiday: Available on Tubi and Hulu, “Last Holiday” features Queen Latifah as a salesperson who finds out that she has a terminal illness during the holiday season. Following her diagnosis, she sets off on a trip where she meets a variety of characters and falls in love with Sean, played by LL Cool J. The film also features Giancarlo Esposito in a supporting role and Smokey Robinson who makes a cameo appearance. 
    1. The Preacher’s Wife: Starring Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston in lead roles, “The Preacher’s Wife” features a star-studded cast, including Lionel Richie, Gregory Hines, Cissy Houston,and Jenifer Lewis. Based on a novel and considered to be a remake of the 1947 “The Bishop’s Wife,” the movie follows angel Dudley who is sent by God to help out real estate developer Joe Hamilton and his wife Julia. Set throughout the Christmas season, “The Preacher’s Wife” follows the reconnection of the family and a new found sense of faith through the help of an angel.
    1. Jingle Jangle: A Chrismas Journey: Available on Netflix, “Jingle Jangle” follows the story of toymaker Jeronicus Jangle who was once betrayed by his apprentice. With the help of his granddaughter, he works on The Buddy 3000, his latest toy that generates unwanted attention from the same apprentice who stole Jeronicus’ idea in the past. Starring Forest Whitaker and Keegan-Michael Key, “Jingle Jangle” is a story about family and reunions.
    1. This Christmas: Available for streaming on Netflix, “This Christmas” chronicles the Christmas season of the Whitfield family. Matriarch Shirley Ann “Ma’Dere” Whitfield gathers her six children for the holiday season as the secrets of each child begin to unravel. Through a series of events, the Whitfields discover what it means to be a family again.
    1. Almost Christmas: This comedy-drama follows a family’s reunion following the death of their mother. Available for viewing on Hulu, “Almost Christmas” stars Danny Glover, Gabrielle Union and Mo’Nique in leading roles. Through a traditional Christmas celebration, the family learns how to confront their grief and move towards a future without the matriarch of the family.
