Today officially marks the start of the Women in Tech Global Summit.

Set to be held until April 30, the event will take place in Cape Town this year. Over 500 global leaders and tech innovators are scheduled to attend the summit. Over 100 speakers are set to take the stage at the meeting.

Held annually, the Women in Tech Global Summit is shaped to give women a platform to spotlight their achievements in STEAM sectors. The meeting also facilitates discussions about emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, cybersecurity, and sustainable technology. The discussions will support the nonprofit’s overall objective to advance technology in Africa and empower 5 million women over the next four years.

The three-day workshop will feature plenary sessions on topics such as building a digital company and sustainable development, as well as keynote addresses featuring leaders such as Stephenie Rodriguez. Other networking opportunities include panels such as the “Women in Tech Around the World” panel and the “Startup Ecosystems on the Rise – A Global Tour” event.

Speakers include the founder and CEO of Women in Tech Global, Ayumi Moore Aoki; the Head of Global Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging at Dynatrace, Shuntasha Phillips; and the Head of Government Affairs at Microsoft Kenya, Akua Gyekye.

“Since its inception, the Summit has established itself as the definitive platform where policy meets practice, vision becomes action, and global leaders commit to measurable change,” said Women in Tech. “Each year, the Summit brings together an unparalleled cross-section of stakeholders—from heads of state and Fortune 500 CEOs to grassroots innovators and emerging entrepreneurs—creating a unique ecosystem where high-level strategic dialogue drives tangible outcomes for millions of women worldwide.”

Created in 2018, the Global Summit has previously been held in Japan and France. Headquartered in France, the Women in Tech organization was founded by Moore in an effort to address the gender gap in tech. Only about 27% of global tech positions are currently held by women.

Supported by Patron President Emmanuel Macron, Women in Tech has more than 65 chapters worldwide as it aims to connect women in tech with the support they need to thrive in the sector. Over 300,000 members are active as part of the organization.

Previously, Women in Tech has held initiatives to build learning centers in rural areas of Africa. The organization has also been a champion of the Osaka Protocol, an agreement to address gender inequality in the digital world.
