A British man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for carrying out a heinous acid attack on his ex-girlfriend.
Prosecutors say Milad Rouf, 25, left his home in Cardiff, Wales, and traveled to his family’s home in Eltham in south-east London (around 187 miles away). He then traveled from there to Brighton, about 65 miles away on the southern coast of England, where he carried out the attack.
The medical student was well prepared. Police officers say he compiled a “shopping list” of props need, which included a “fat suit” and “black morph suit,” to disguise himself as an overweight Black woman.
“Using padded clothing and makeup, he made himself appear to be a Black woman of large build. By the time of the attack at 4.15pm, he was dressed all in Black and he was wearing a face mask, sunglasses and a face visor,” prosecutor Flora Page told the court per The Guardian.
Rouf was wearing his disguise when he traveled to the home of Rym Alaoui. When she opened the door, he handed her a note to read. As she was reading the note, Rouf hurled sulphuric acid over his ex-girlfriend. He then took off his disguise, hid the disguise in a trash can and fled the scene.
Since the attack, Alaoui, who broke up with Rouf in April, has been unable to close her eyes or move her neck and is blind in her right eye.
Judge Christine Laing QC called Rouf “a danger to women.”
“You thought about what you wanted to do and how you were going to do it and planned it over weeks before carrying it out,” Laing said. “You knew full well what you were doing was wrong and you tried to evade responsibility for it to continue to pursue your medical career.”
He will now have plenty of time to reflect on his actions.
