The Weekend Entertainment Recap: March 21st
Beyoncé and Balmain broke the internet with the announcement of a new Renaissance Couture collection on Friday. Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing, was a crucial figure behind the hundreds of iconic “Homecoming” outfits for the singer, her dancers and musicians while headlining at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2018. The collaboration is said to be the first wearable album as the collection will feature 16 outfits that are inspired by tracks from her album Renaissance, according to Vogue. Beyoncé took to social media to share the news with the Bey-Hive and thanked Rousteing and Balmain for “bringing RENAISSANCE to life in couture.”
In the case of Creed III actor, Jonathan Majors, he broke the internet but not for positive reasons. New York police say that Majors was arrested Saturday morning in an alleged domestic dispute, according to reporting from CNN. Authorities say he was taken into custody in relation to a 911 call made from a Manhattan apartment where a 30-year-old female victim informed police she was assaulted. Majors has since been released from custody and a spokesperson for the actor denied that he has done anything wrong. Now Majors is facing strangulation, assault and harassment charges.
Although he did not get arrested for assaulting any paparazzi this weekend, Kanye “Ye” West, did make headlines for his newfound outlook on the Jewish community. The rapper took to social media to backtrack on his previous statements resenting the Jewish community. What caused the rapper’s change of heart? He credits Jonah Hill’s acting in the 2012 action-comedy film 21 Jump Street. Ye stated in his post, “Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump street made me like Jewish people again. No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people.” The actor has not commented on Ye’s remarks and appreciation for his acting abilities.
Fellow rapper Drake and his new tour, “It’s All a Blur,” are at the center of a class action lawsuit involving Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster is facing a new lawsuit over the pricing of tickets for Drake and 21 Savage’s tour. LPC Avocat Inc., a law firm based in Montreal, Canada filed the lawsuit claiming that Ticketmaster “intentionally misleads consumers for [its] own financial gain,” according to reporting by Yahoo. Plaintiffs are requesting “compensatory damages in the aggregate amount of the difference between the prices charged for ‘Official Platinum’ tickets and what their regular price ought to have been” plus $300 each in punitive damages. The rapper and Canadian native has not commented on the lawsuit at this time. However, Ticketmaster will have to face congress and an antitrust investigation over alleged abuse of power.
Rapper Da Brat and her wife Jesseca “Judy” Dupart were able to shine a light of positivity this weekend as they held a gender reveal party. The Harris-Dupart duo will be adding a baby boy to the family. The couple went all out, dressed in pink and blue, and held the festive reveal with friends and family. The gender of their child was displayed on a monitor after a countdown for all attendees to see and was followed by blue confetti raining down on the crowd. Da Brat and Judy wed with a beautiful ceremony on February 22, 2022.
