The Hub’s Entertainment Watch List: Riches
When business becomes personal, one may anticipate an unfavorable outcome, and Amazon Prime’s new original series, Riches, explores that dynamic. The series debuted on Prime Video in the U.S., Canada, Sub-Saharan Africa and more on December 2, 2022. Amazon Studios and ITV worked with Abby Ajayi, the writer and creator, to produce this new drama series. Ajayi is known for her work with the hit ABC series, “How To Get Away With Murder.”
The six-episode streaming drama stars Deborah Ayorinde (Nina Richards), Hugh Quarshie (Stephen Richards), Sarah Niles (Claudia Richards), Adeyinka Akinrinade (Alesha Richards), Ola Orebiyi (Gus Richards), Nneka Okoye (Wanda Richards), and Emmanuel Imani (Simon Richards). Riches takes viewers into the life of the wealthy and powerful Richards family. In the multibillion-dollar hair industry, the Richards family serves as power players.
Stephen Richards leads the company Flair & Glory but unexpectedly dies, leaving his family behind to continue his legacy. The family, however, is fragmented so coming together over the loss of their patriarch is no easy task. The blended family includes his current wife, Claudia, their three children and Stephen’s two estranged kids, Nina and Simon, who are from his first marriage. The children he shares with Claudia each have eccentric personalities, which can often lead to spats amongst the siblings, while in contrast, Nina and Simon share a tight bond.
After Stephen’s untimely passing, the family is left surprised by who was put in charge of the Flair & Glory. Stephen’s last wishes outlined in his will left some slighted, while others were a bit shocked by the potential for new opportunities. The reading of the will set the tone for all of the events that take place throughout the series. From secret business dealings to news of embezzlement, the Richards family continuously stirs up drama that viewers seem to enjoy.
