Lurie Daniel Favors sits down with Professor Tonya M. Evans to understand how things are working in the crypto world.
According to the radio host, she has “a lot of skeptical questions” and is still “in a space of learning,” much like most listeners. Despite being around for years, crypto still gets a bad rap, and while Prof. Evans agrees that the current landscape feels unstable, she ties public skepticism to ethics and power, describing a system in which “the foxes are guarding the hens.”
According to Evans, concerns about conflicts of interest and insider advantage are valid, noting similar issues exist beyond crypto in stocks and policymaking. Evans argues that the technology should be evaluated separately from fraud and hype.
“Bad actors don’t define the value of the technology,” she says, adding that “crypto itself isn’t inherently corrupt,” before going on to outline the practical distinctions between holding assets in a personal wallet versus leaving them on an exchange, using the FTX collapse as a cautionary example.
Evans is making it her mission to ensure the community has the information it needs and is “setting you up for success.”
