It’s always great learning about athletes excelling beyond the field of play, so we were happy to hear the great news about Langston Galloway of the College Park Skyhawks winning the 2022-23 NBA G League Community Assist Award.
Per the G League, “the award honors a player’s extensive commitment to positively impacting the community through sustained efforts.”
Galloway, who is in his second year with the team, won the award due to his dedication to serving the community he plays in. He helped distribute food to over 100 families in the College Park community for Thanksgiving, purchased gifts for kids for their holiday wish lists and spoke to youth basketball teams many times during the season.
In addition, Galloway partnered with the Healthy Meals Program at Thrive Academy in his hometown of Baton Rouge to provide nutritious meals to local boys and girls basketball teams.
But these actions are nothing new to Galloway. In 2018, he established “The Langston Galloway Foundation” to help communities through sports, education and wellbeing.
The foundation’s mission is clear:
We exist to help build strong foundations through sports, education, and wellbeing by removing barriers, providing support, and casting a vision of what is possible. We aim to equip the next generation of leaders and change makers with skills and resources that foster a positive path through, school, sports, and life.
Galloway began his pro career in the G League with the Westchester Knicks in 2014 before getting called up by the Knicks mid-season. He played with the team for one more full season before moving on to play for other NBA teams like Toronto, New Orleans, Sacramento and Detroit.
He returned to the G League in 2021 with the Skyhawks and has spent the last two seasons with the team.
