Dr. Koritha Mitchell joins Karen Hunter to discuss “Till,” the recent movie about the lynching of Emmett Till.
“Till,” which is the second retelling of this story in 2022, tells the story of the murder of Emmett Till and the activism of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. Back in January, ABC launched its miniseries “Women of the Movement,” which also focused on Til-Mobley’s fight for justice after the slaying of her teenage son.
Hunter and Dr. Mitchell, author of Living with Lynching: African American Lynching Plays, Performance, and Citizenship, not only question who the intended audience of this new film is and whether it’s time to do away with lynching movies?
