HBO has released a new trailer for its new trailer centering on the life of late rapper and actor DMX.
The Christopher Frierson-directed offering, “DMX: Don’t Try to Understand,” follows a year in the life of the late rapper.
“Unfolding in cinéma vérité style and with unfettered access, the film bears witness to a man searching for reinvention and redemption, striving to stay true to himself while reestablishing his roles as a father, an artist, and an icon,” the media release reads.
The documentary, executive produced by “The Ringer’s” Bill Simmons (HBO’s “Andre The Giant,” “Showbiz Kids”), follows Earl “DMX” Simmons’s early prison release in 2019 and attempts to rebuild his career in the music industry. Viewers will also see the revered artist reconnect with family members and his loyal fans.
“DMX: Don’t Try to Understand” premieres on HBO/HBO Max on Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Simmons passed away died at White Plains Hospital in New York after being admitted on Apr. 2. “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart, and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever,” read a family statement announcing the sad news.
Simmons was 50 at the time of his death.
“Up until I was 20, I was told I wouldn’t live to see 20,” X said in his late ever interview via TV One. He said this motivated him to “out live every body’s expectations. And not just out live but outperform, outlast ’em.”
