On Monday, Daniel Penny was acquitted of criminally negligent homicide in the case of the death of Jordan Neely. Neely was a well known Michael Jackson impersonator on the NYC subway lines who also struggled with homelessness and schizophrenia. On May 1, 2023, Neely was allegedly having an episode when Penny, a marine veteran who was 24 at the time, subdued him in an extensive chokehold which eventually led to Neely’s death.

Penny’s trial has been highly controversial with many civil rights leaders standing up for Neely while figures from the far right like president elect Trump and his VP JD Vance have extended strong support for Penny.

On Wednesday, Penny spoke publicly since getting acquitted and claimed his arrest was politically motivated. Tune in to the clip below to hear Professor Hunter and Drew McCaskill break this down!
