Cory Booker Asks “Where’s the Beef?” as Republicans Advance Todd Blanche

Karen Hunter praised Sen. Cory Booker after he erupted over the Senate Judiciary Committee’s decision to advance Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general, saying the New Jersey Democrat delivered a needed response.

“Somebody had to say something,” Hunter said on SiriusXM Urban View’s “The Karen Hunter Show.” “Nobody seemed to be saying anything worthy of, and yes, you laid out the case.”

Before playing Booker’s remarks, Hunter said she sometimes questions whether displays of anger in Congress are genuine.

“Sometimes I lean in, and sometimes I’m like, ‘I don’t know, is this performative?’” Hunter questioned. “But I’m going to play this clip because it seemed like he was really angry that this vote went through.”

Booker criticized concessions senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis accepted before supporting Blanche. Blanche rescinded a proposed $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund and clarified limits on a tax audit immunity agreement involving President Donald Trump.

“This is all hat and no cattle,” Booker said. “It’s hard for me to say this as a plant-based guy, but where’s the beef?”

Booker stated that the agreement offered “no guarantees whatsoever that this slush fund still can’t go forward” and no assurance that Trump could not “cheat on his taxes and have no accountability.”

“Dear God, folks, it’s not like we’re talking about a president who is a saint,” Booker declared. He later compared giving Trump protections from future accountability to handing “a known arsonist” a “whole barrel full of gasoline.”

Hunter agreed with Booker’s criticism and accused Republicans of disregarding the public.

“They still said, ‘Yeah, we don’t care,’” Hunter went on. “They don’t care. But I’m glad it’s on the record. Cory Booker said all of the things,” before criticizing Cornyn and Tillis for reversing course.

“They folded because they made some sort of backdoor compromise deal,” she added.
