Jovita Moore, beloved WSB-TV news anchor, has sadly passed away after a long battle with brain cancer.
Moore was diagnosed in April with glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is an extremely aggressive form of cancer that appears in the brain and spinal cord, for which there is no cure and it is hereditary and not caused by any lifestyle factors. She was treated with radiation and chemotherapy.
“This journey for me started with an unusual headache, so if something’s not right with you, I urge you to please get yourself checked,” Moore said on air in July.
The journalist first joined Channel 2 Action News in 1998 before moving to the main anchor desk in 2012. In 2001, Moore won an Emmy for her piece “Women and Fibroids.” She would go on to win several more. In 2017, she was honored by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter and was inducted into the Silver Circle.
Moore is survived by her mother, her two children and stepdaughter.
Before joining WSB-TV, Moore spent time on the air at WMC-TV in Memphis and KFSM in Fayetteville and Fort Smith, Arkansas. The impact of Moore’s passing, already deeply felt.
Condolences have been pouring in on social media.
