From the moment Kamala Harris emerged as the Democratic Presidential candidate, a surge of enthusiasm and excitement has swelled, with groups forming to support the current VP.
Black women led the way, raising millions for Harris. They were joined by “Black Men for Harris,” “White Dudes for Harris,” “Asians for Harris” and a slew of other groups that threw their support and money behind Kamala.
Now another group has joined the fray, one that we said previously needed to get involved for it could give her the support she needs to win.
Sports.
“Athletes for Harris” was formed by 10 prominent athletes across different sports seeking to make Kamala Harris the first woman, first Black woman and first woman of South Asian descent in the White House.
The list includes Thomas Booker, Philadelphia Eagles DT; NBA legend Magic Johnson; tennis legend Billie Jean King; Warriors head coach Steve Kerr; Ali Krieger, two-time Women’s World Cup champion; WNBA legend Candace Parker; Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers; South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley; Ali Truwit, two-time Paralympic silver medalist and 12x NBA All-Star, Chris Paul.
The group aims to work with other athletes in supporting Harris, who has already received endorsements from 15 Pro Football Hall of Famers including Emmitt Smith, Kellen Winslow and Calvin Johnson.
Harris, a Howard alum, has also received support from over 50 former HBCU athletes.
