Civil rights attorney and SiriusXM Urban View host Lurie Daniel Favors delivered an emotional warning after the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good, a legal observer in Minneapolis.
Daniel Favors shared her belief that the killing was part of a more comprehensive escalation in state power and political violence, rejecting claims that raising an alarm is “fear-mongering.”
Daniel Favors said she has watched online disinformation evolve since the 2024 election, arguing that bots and bad-faith commenters moved from X to Instagram and continue to attack Black voices who urge political engagement, drawing a sharp distinction between fear-mongering and education, describing her role as explaining what is happening, why it matters and what history suggests could come next.
“It ain’t fear-mongering if it’s true.” – Lurie Daniel Favors
Turning to Good’s death, Daniel Favors cited reporting that “hours after” the shooting, the administration announced plans to increase immigration enforcement activity while highlighting Vice President JD Vance’s comments about ramping up deportations through expanded hiring and “door-to-door” operations. She also pointed to reports that ICE planned a major recruitment and advertising push, including targeting gun rights activists and military enthusiasts and using geofencing to deliver ads near military bases and gun shows.
The radio host also argued that the developments echo earlier eras when policing operated as a deputized force and invoked the history of slave patrols and racial terror. In her view, Good’s killing demonstrates the risks of a climate where aggressive enforcement is celebrated, and scrutiny is dismissed.
