Big news for the HBCU community interested in a sports career as Diverse Representation and WME Sports are partnering to host the inaugural HBCU Sports Business Pitch Competition, which will take place in New Orleans this February.

According to the release, “The goal of the HBCU Sports Business Pitch Competition is to not only give local students the opportunity to pitch their companies and ideas but to also interact with key decision makers from across the industry.”

“Amidst the many celebrations that take place during Super Bowl week, we want to make sure we are pouring back into the local community,” said Diverse Representation founder, Jaia Thomas, Esq, in a statement. “New Orleans is a city rich in HBCU culture and we want to ensure those students are able to take advantage of the economic and cultural impact of Super Bowl.”

The city is home to over 6,500 HBCU students from universities such as Dillard, Xavier and Southern University at New Orleans.

The competition, which is open to any individuals currently enrolled and in good academic at the institutions above, was created to “not only give local students the opportunity to pitch their companies and ideas but to also interact with key decision makers from across the industry.”

The event takes place on February 7th, 2025 in New Orleans just ahead of the Super Bowl.

“The Super Bowl is in a league of its own when it comes to the ability to drive business across every part of the sports and entertainment industry,” said WME Sports VP of Brand Strategy Ashley Joseph. “Given the legacy of HBCUs in New Orleans, we feel it is important to shine a spotlight on these students, fuel their innovative thinking, and give them pathways to build a successful career in this space. The ongoing work our WME Recruitment team will be doing with these universities is one of the most important aspects of this entire initiative.”

For more information about the event, visit the HBCU Sports Business Pitch website here or log on to https://www.hbcusportsbusinesspitch.com
