Legal Defense Fund Highlights Impact Project 2025 Will Have on Black Communities As Election Day Draws Near

The Legal Defense Fund recently published a report highlighting the effects that the Conservative plan, Project 2025, could have on Black communities.

Published weeks before the November Election, the 78-page report “Attack On Our Power And Dignity: What Project 2025 Means For Black Communities” draws attention to the impact of the Conservatives’ plans, detailing their effects on education, equal rights and voting rights.

As reported by the Legal Defense Fund, Project 2025 will work towards removing anti-discrimination laws, particularly in the workplace, while also limiting Black students’ access to education. The plan will widen the educational and wealth gap for these students by targeting the Department of Education, which famously protects civil rights in institutions such as schools.

Along with threatening access to affordable housing and reproductive rights, the Legal Defense Fund reported that the political influences of Black communities will be undermined and the usage of the death penalty will increase. The death penalty has been disproportionately sentenced to Black people, often as part of wrongful convictions.

“As alarming as the threat of Project 2025 is, it does not have to be our destiny. LDF has long

held an affirmative vision of this country as a multi-racial, multi-ethnic democracy that provides

equal opportunities for all,” said the group per their report. “The United States has made great progress since the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-twentieth century but still has a long way to go to fully realize its promise.”

The report comes as Election Day draws near, with some already visiting polling booths as early voters. Per an NBC report, over 30 million mail-in and early, in-person votes have already been cast nationally; while 43% of these voters are registered Democrats, approximately 39% are Republicans, and 18% are listed as supporters of other parties.

The election results are still up in the air as both candidates continue to rally for votes. In a new poll released yesterday, both candidates were reported as being tied at 49% in states like Georgia, while Donald Trump is reportedly leading by razor-thin margins in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

Earlier this week, Vice President Harris continued her campaign in Georgia. She was joined by former President Barack Obama and music legend Bruce Springsteen at her latest rally with the latter voicing his support for her campaign.

“There is only one candidate in this election who holds those principles dear: Kamala Harris,” Springsteen said at the rally. “She’s running to be the 47th president of the United States. Donald Trump is running to be an American tyrant. He does not understand this country, its history or what it means to be deeply American.”

Musical legend Beyonce is also expected to voice her support for Harris at tonight’s Houston rally.
