Candiace Dillard Bassett Says He Has a ‘Fear Of Having Light-Skinned Children’

The Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard Bassett has happily married Chris Bassett since 2018.

While the couple have faced their share of upset while filming the show, one thing they have always been sure of is that they want to expand their family. The reality star and rising singer visited Breakbeat Media’s Don’t Call Me White Girl podcast, where she opened up about her plans to have children with her husband of five years — who is white.

The couple does not yet have any children together, but last year, they revealed they had begun the process of having IVF. Dillard told Bravo’s Andy Cohen that they “were able to go through with a successful egg retrieval,” and they ended up with six embryos in total. In the months since then, the couple has been trying to determine “when the appropriate time to pop out a baby or two is,” she recently told BravoTV.com.

Speaking to Don’t Call Me White Girl, Dillard says that she is “afraid of having fair-skinned children,” and hopes that her children are born with a darker hue.

“I do have a fear of having light-skinned children,” she admitted. “I want my kids to be brown. But they’re probably not gonna be brown. And I’m like, becoming okay with it. I want my kids to be brown. But if they’re not, it’s fine.”

Dillard often complained about some of the cast members’ perceived colorism on the Bravo show. Dillard, a proud, darker-skinned woman, says she did not consider her now-husband’s complexion when they began dating.

Her spouse already has three children from previous relationships.

“Whatever happens happens,” she declared. “But I didn’t think about [that] when I was falling in love and like ‘Oh this is my husband. Oh wait I’m gonna have these swirly babies.'”

The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 8 continues Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
