Celebrated nationally, tomorrow marks the 109th celebration of Mother’s Day.

Officially recognized as a national holiday by the U.S. government in 1914, the day of celebration honors motherhood in all its different forms.

Here are five last-minute gifts for Mother’s Day by Black Women-Owned brands.

    Mented’s Everyday Eyeshadow Palette

Created by Harvard graduates KJ Miller and Amanda E. Johnson in 2017, Mented Cosmetics focuses on inclusivity in the beauty world. Each product is also vegan, paraben-free, cruelty-free and non-toxic.

Although there’s a vast collection to choose from on Mented’s online site, the Everyday Eyeshadow Palette features nine different eyeshadows that can be used on a daily basis. Available on the Mented site for $28, amongst the shades in this palette are Light Bright, Red Bone and Tandemonium.

    Barbara’s Desert Sunrise Bouquet

A staple in Brooklyn and Harlem, Barbara’s Flower Shop is run by creative Tara Simone Powell. Named after her mother, Powell’s flower shop is known for its specialized arrangements and offers the best-selection of flowers for same-day delivery.

While specialized bouquets are available for sale, the shop also offers pre-designed bouquets such as Barbara’s Desert Sunrise bouquet. Available on their site for $85, the mix includes peach roses, white asiatic lilies, peach miniature carnations and green echeveria succulents to create a subdued, but energetically designed bouquet.

    Bychari’s Lani Necklace

Created by jewelry designer Chari Cuthbert, the Bychari company focuses on making quality pieces for affordable prices. The roots of the company began when Cuthbert first started building small pieces of jewelry as a hobby. Slowly, she began teaching herself how to design and was able to found her own company with her products. Bychari has skyrocketed in terms of popularity with Cathbert’s pieces being worn by public figures such as Michelle Obama.

While the company offers a variety of jewelry, including anklets, rings and earrings, the Lani necklace is an eye-catching gift from Bychari for Mother’s Day. Available on the company’s website for $95, the necklace is handmade by the Los Angeles Bychari team. The design features a gold filled chain with a single freshwater pearl.

Black Girl Magic’s Self-Care Essential Box

Created by a holistic Health coach, the priority of the BlackGirlMagicBox company is to help Black women practice self-care for the mind, body and soul. The company also helps support smaller, independent companies as most of the products included in the subscription boxes are from Black Women-Owned brands.

While the company is known for its subscription boxes, they do offer boxes for one-time purchases. The Selfcare Essentials box is available for $80 on the BlackGirlMagicBox website. Featuring seven products, the box includes a mug decorated with affirmations, a self care journal, an all-natural tea blend, body lotion, and a rose bath soak amongst other products.

    A Bliss Books & Wine’s Book

Founded by siblings La’Nesha Frazier and La’Nae Robinson, Bliss Books & Wine focuses on encouraging people to become readers by creating a community through book and wine events. The bookstore also helps highlight local authors and artists. For their efforts, Bliss Books & Wine was titled as the 2022 Emerging Small Business of the Year by the KC Chamber of Commerce. All available on their online site, the bookstore offers books from a variety of genres-including classics, banned books, drama, dystopia, culture, cooking and more.
