The Entertainment Weekend Recap: March 6th

After leaving Power 105.1’s hit radio morning show, The Breakfast Club, Angela Yee made a recent appearance on the Tamron Hall Show. Some of her comments, which centered on her being the only female in the room, came under fire from fellow celebrities as well as social media users. Once the clip went viral, Yee’s former co-host DJ Envy responded by saying that the comments were “just not true.” Angela Yee soon backtracked on her remarks after being called out.

The radio personality took to Twitter to clarify that “‘In the room’ referred to the people in the studio: the producer, board op, videographer and hosts.” She added,  “Yes they are men. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t amazing women who are execs.” Surprisingly, Charlamagne tha God, the third member of The Breakfast Club, did not make any comments on Yee’s remarks over the weekend but it did become a topic of conversation on Monday’s episode of the show.

Usually I don’t comment or go back and forth with people but there’s too much spinning. “In the room” referred to the people in the studio: the producer, board op, videographer and hosts. Yes they are men. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t amazing women who are execs,

While the host of The Breakfast Club exchanged words via social media, Cardi B and Offset were having their McDonald’s meal pulled from certain menus. McDonald’s partnership with Cardi B and Offset for their promotional Valentine’s Day meal received criticism from several franchisees. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the partnership between the rappers and the fast food giant has been accused of breaking the brand’s Golden Arches Code.

The company’s Golden Arches Code for marketing urges against “musical partnerships associated with content that includes offensive language in the lyrics.” Some franchisees have begun removing advertising and merchandise associated with the promotion and are urging other franchisees to consider doing the same. Cardi B nor Offset have responded to the recent criticism.

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant is also coming under fire for a recent Instagram live post. The point guard will not play in at least two games after his live stream displayed what appeared to be a gun while at a nightclub early Saturday morning. The video prompted an investigation from the NBA and by Saturday afternoon, The Grizzlies announced that Morant “will be away from the team for at least the next two games.”

Morant has since deleted his social media accounts and apologized for his misconduct. In the statement, Morant said he takes “full responsibility” for his actions and he also issued an apology to his family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners” and the city of Memphis.

Comedian Chris Rock got people talking this weekend with the release of his new comedy special, Selective Outrage. The comedian finally told his side of the story and accused Will Smith of practicing “selective outrage” by getting mad at him instead of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Rock even brought up the couple’s entanglement scandal, which he claimed caused more hurt to Smith than Smith inflicted on him.

The one-hour stand-up special is available for viewing audiences on the streaming platform Netflix.

The weekend came to a close with a slight touch of positivity. Singer and actor Tyrese took to social media and announced that legendary gospel singer Kim Burrell was hospitalized with pneumonia. The singer received an outpouring of love, support and prayers from fans. Burrell spoke out to let the public know “that all is well.”

She posted a selfie on Instagram and appeared to be in good spirits while also asking for continued prayer during her recovery process.
