“Bethune-Cookman University Athletics has entered an agreement in principle with Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed to be its 16th head football coach,” tweeted the university.

The Hall of Famer played in the NFL for 12 years, 11 of them with the Baltimore Ravens where the ball-hawking safety commanded the secondary, collecting 61 interceptions in the process. Reed, a 9x Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

Reed was a defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills and was on the football staff at the University of Miami as “Chief of Staff.”

Now he joins former NFLers such as Tyrone Wheatley, Deion Sanders, Eddie George, Hue Jackson and Eddie Robinson Jr. who have led/are leading HBCU football programs.
