The Weekend Entertainment Recap: December 5th

After receiving an outpour of criticism over a controversial advertising campaign Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna issued a public apology on Friday. The brand put out an ad that featured images of young children posing with teddy bears in fetish clothing. Once word of the advertisement spread, the luxury fashion house apologized for the campaign and retracted it.

Demna wrote in an Instagram statement, “it was inappropriate to have kids promote objects that had nothing to do with them.” The campaign aimed to promote new products from the Balenciaga Gift Shop and it was shot by photographer Gabriele Galimberti.

The suspect charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Migos rapper Takeoff was held on a $2 million bond during his first court appearance late Friday night. Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, was arrested Thursday evening in Houston and “charged with the rapper’s murder. A judge determined that Clark posed a flight risk after prosecutors noted that Clark purchased tickets to Mexico two days before his arrest and applied for an expedited passport. TakeOff, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was honored by more than 20,000 people with a lavish funeral service held in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on November 11.

A longtime member of the nationally-syndicated radio show “The Breakfast Club,” Angela Yee, made her final appearance after 12 years alongside Charlemagne Tha God and DJ Envy on Friday. She was celebrated by each of her co-workers as they bosted on her influence on the radio industry.

The Breakfast Club has interviewed a variety of figures across music, movies, politics and more. The show was even inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020. Yee will leave her co-hosts to launch her own nationally syndicated show in 2023 on iHeartMedia called “Way Up With Angela Yee.” Until her new show launches next year, fans of the radio personality can check out her podcast, “Lip Service.”

Three rap stars, all of whom have been featured guests on The Breakfast Club, celebrated a birthday on Saturday, December 3. The first to enter the world was Katrina Laverne Taylor, better known as Trina. Trina was born in Miami, Florida in 1978. Fellow female rapper Jatavia “JT” Johnson of the City Girls was born in 1992 and is also a Miami native. Lil Baby, whose real name is Dominique Jones, is Sagittarius like his rap peers. He’s the youngest out of the three and was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1994.

As Trina, JT and Lil Baby celebrate their birthdays, Keke Palmer announced that she’ll be giving birth! The actress hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time and while doing her opening monologue she told the world that she is expecting her first child with her boyfriend, who goes by Darius Daulton.

The expecting father posted a photo of Palmer cradling her baby bump with the caption “2023.”
