Documentaries, specials and marathons are premiering this February in honor of Black History Month 2022.

Here is a selection of Black History Month content hitting the airwaves, and where you can watch.

Soul of a Nation Presents: Screen Queens Rising and X/onerated (Feb. 3)

Last night, two new specials aired on ABC News as part of its “Soul of a Nation” show that explores different facets of Black history and life.

The episode “Soul of a Nation Presents: Screen Queens Rising” details the history of Black actresses in Hollywood and the legendary roles they played.

The second episode “Soul of a Nation Presents: X / o n e r a t e d – The Murder of Malcolm X and 55 Years to Justice” follows Muhammad Abdul Aziz, who endured wrongful conviction for the assassination of Malcolm X. The special includes Aziz’s debut television interview since his conviction was overturned last year.

Both specials are available to stream on Hulu and the ABC app.

    Phat Tuesdays (Feb. 4)

A documentary about a highly successful Los Angeles all-Black comedy night “Phat Tuesdays: The Era of Hip Hop Comedy” released on Prime Video today. Regina King, Tiffany Haddish, Craig Robinson and many more celebrities are featured in the docuseries.

All three episodes are available to stream now.

TCM Remembers Sidney Poitier (Feb. 19)

Turner Classic Movies will honor the silver screen legend Sidney Poitier, who died last month, with a marathon of curated picks from his iconic filmography. The marathon will run until Feb. 20, and includes such classics as “The Defiant Ones,” “To Sir, With Love” and “In the Heat of the Night.”

Fannie Lou Hamer’s America: An America Reframed Special (Feb. 22)

“Fannie Lou Hamer’s America: An America Reframed Special” documents the life of the Mississippi-born civil rights activist from her birth into a family of sharecroppers through her many monumental achievements.

The documentary will air on PBS and will subsequently be available to stream on the PBS Video app.

Frederick Douglass: In Five Speeches (Feb. 23)

“Frederick Douglass: In Five Speeches” will animate speeches by the seminal figure in the abolition of slavery with performances from Jonathan Majors, Jeffrey Wright, Nicole Beharie and more.

Acclaimed historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. serves as an executive producer on the documentary, which will release on HBO and HBO Max later this month.
