    Superfoods are good for us.

That much we know. But when thinking of superfoods, sometimes the foods which come to mind can be a little boring (for some people at least.)

However, superfoods are not only good for you — but many of them are delicious to eat.

    Here are five tasty superfoods.

    Dark Chocolate:

Who can resist a nibble of chocolate? But sometimes, when deciding to opt for a healthier lifestyle — chocolate is often one of the first things to go.

However, there is evidence to suggest that dark chocolate may offer many health benefits. Cacao in dark chocolate is chocked full of antioxidants. As well as being loaded with minerals, the flavanols in dark chocolate can stimulate the endothelium, the lining of arteries, to produce nitric oxide — this can ultimately help reduce blood pressure.

According to Healthline, a controlled study found that cocoa powder significantly decreased men’s oxidized LDL (bad) cholesterol. It also increased HDL and lowered total LDL for those with high cholesterol. It can also help to improve your mood and even help with memory loss.

    Sweet Potato:

Sweet potatoes are a staple in a lot of Black homes. But this deliciously (and more importantly) naturally sweet root vegetable is bursting with goodness. This superfood is high in Vitamin A, which is vital in helping the body fight off infections, and remain resistant to any further infections. They can also be used in the management of diabetes by minimizing insulin resistance and low blood sugar levels.

Sweet potatoes are also rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin E.

    Pomegranate:

The humble pomegranate’s appearance can be offputting for some. While its reddish-pink skin is pleasing to the eye, once cracking this fruit open — its somewhat complex makeup can turn many off.

Basically, it can be a messy business.

But did you know that pomegranates are also great for your heart?

Some studies suggest that the fruit can help prevent plaque buildup in your arteries and that it improves HDL, the “good” cholesterol. They’re also an excellent sweetener for salads.

    Citrus Fruits:

There are so many varieties of citrus that even if you don’t like one type, you’re almost guaranteed to find one you do like.

Oranges, lemons, limes, clementines, orangelos, pomelos, grapefruits — the list goes on.

Citrus fruits were one of the first foods to show the link between diet and disease prevention — after it was found that they could cure scurvy. So in a way, the citrus fruit is the original superfood.

Other benefits of the fruits include wound healing and collagen production, and they even help your body absorb iron better. Vitamin C, which the citrus fruit possesses in drove, also does wonders for your skin.

    Salmon:

Obviously, if you’re a vegetarian, salmon won’t be starring on your grocery list.

But for those of us who do indulge in a little seafood here and there, salmon is a great addition to your diet. Salmon is loaded with healthy fats, protein, B vitamins, potassium and selenium.

Its omega-3 fatty acids are said to be helpful in reducing inflammation, lowering your risk of heart disease and diabetes and help with weight management.
