Charles Sogli stands at nearly eight feet tall making him the tallest man in Ghana’s Volta region.
Sogli hails from Ziope in the Agotime-Ziope District region.
The 22-year-old, who is an incredible 7 feet 10 inches tall, is appealing for customized footwear working apparel so that he can hold onto his welding and metal fabrication job as well as a special vehicle to aid his mobility.
Sogli’s feet measure in at 16 inches. A US size 15 is about 12.2 inches.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Sogli shared that he was forced to drop out of school because he could not get footwear for the size of his feet. Sogli also explained that he had difficulty driving commercial vehicles due to his height — resulting in various commercial drivers denying him their services.
“Drivers don’t pick me up anytime I stop them because they say I am too tall and cannot fit well into their cars. So I always walk to work and back home unless someone is really touched to give me a lift,” he said in a separate interview with MyJoyOnline.
He is concerned that his current apprenticeship will have a similar ending.
Micheal DeSouza, Sogli’s employer, had nothing but good things to say about his “hardworking” employee.
“He is a good, quiet and peaceful person. All he needs is appropriate footwear and working gear for his size and may be a special means of transport- a special car,” he said.
Sogli has been able to find shoes, but they are not protective. As well as shoes, he says he needs goggles, gloves and hard hats.
“I will be happy if people can help me with sandals and shoes, which should be specially designed for me. I also need dresses and a means of transport. I am also pleading with drivers to pick me anytime I stop them,” he adds.
