Colin Kaepernick, Ben & Jerry’s Team up to ‘Change the Whirled’

Ben & Jerry’s has announced that they have teamed up with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick to bring us a new permanent ice-cream flavor.

The ice cream, named “Colin Kaepernick’s Change the Whirled,” will officially launch in 2021.

Kaepernick named the tasty new dessert.

I’ve teamed up with @BenAndJerrys to serve up joy on the journey to justice!

Today, we're excited to introduce Change the Whirled, a new non-dairy flavor that hits shelves in early-2021!

Colin Kaepernick’s Change the Whirled is vegan, nondairy and features caramel sunflower butter base with fudge chips, graham cracker swirls, and chocolate cookie swirls.

“No surprise, we’ve known about and admired Colin Kaepernick for years. First it was because of his skills and leadership on the football field. And then it was because of his efforts to use his position and his voice to protest police violence, systemic racism, and white supremacy. He sacrificed his career just so that he could speak up for and stand with people who’ve been systematically oppressed. That kind of courage is uncommon—and desperately needed,” the ice cream brand said on its website.

    — Know Your Rights Camp (@yourrightscamp) November 9, 2020

A portion of the proceeds will go towards Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp — a nonprofit Kaepernick started in 2016 to “to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities.”

In a statement, Kaepernick said, “I’m honored to partner with Ben & Jerry’s on Change the Whirled. Their commitment to challenging the anti-Black roots of policing in the United States demonstrates a material concern for the well-being of Black and Brown communities. My hope is that this partnership will amplify calls to defund and abolish the police and to invest in futures that can make us safer, healthier, and truly free.”
