Tiff Massey: 7 Mile + Livernois

Detroit Institute of Art – Detroit, Michigan

An exciting new show featuring the works of Detroit’s own Tiff Mssey, this exhibition highlights a blend of newly commissioned pieces and recent works. Her goal is to provide you with a dynamic and inclusive glimpse into her hometown while touring the connections between identity and community. It’s an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

The show will be running until May 2025.

This Morning, This Evening, So Soon: James Baldwin and the Voices of Queer Resistance

National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian – Washington, D.C.

Here’s an upcoming exhibition that we think you’ll find truly remarkable. It delves into the interconnected lives of some extraordinary individuals such as James Baldwin, A Raisin in the Sun author Lorraine Hansberry, politician and educator Barbara Jordan, Civil Rights titan Bayard Rustin, and Essex Hemphill and Marlon Riggs, both filmmakers and poets.

The exhibition is a special tribute to Baldwin’s centennial and draws inspiration from one of his renowned short stories published in The Atlantic. Through the use of portraiture and collectible memorabilia, it aims to provide a deep exploration of these creatives’ lives and their profound influence.

You’ll have ample time to visit. The exhibition will run through April 2025.

Omi Okum (Sea Water), Art on The Mart

    Chicago

As part of Chicago’s 2024 ART on THE MART summer headline commission, their latest endeavor is the launch of an immersive film that highlights artist Yinka Llori and his personal memories with the Pentecostal Aladure church in Nigeria, uncovering heartfelt revelations along the way.

By combining mesmerizing artwork along with a captivating soundscape, the film draws inspiration from Psalm 24 of David. Lori, while contemplating the sovereignty of higher powers, eloquently recites the psalm.

Prepare to be engrossed in a world of art and reflection. The exhibition will run through September 11, 2024.
