The Mino Were Active in the Slave Trade
In 1727, the Mino defeated neighboring African kingdom, Xwéda, a kingdom that exported 1,000 humans a month into slavery. These people were taken from the interior of the continent and neighboring villages and Xwéda, which was known as Whydah by the Europeans, was a major supplier of human cargo. When the king was unable to supply the growing demand, he would sell his own wives into the slave trade. The Mino conquered them and were major suppliers of people into slavery, mostly prisoners captured in raids and wars.
