The Film Has Already Been Hit With Some Controversy

During an interview with one of Mexico City’s leading newspapers, La Jornada, Perez-Solano made the following statement about his cast members.

“The skin tone that I use in the movie does not reach the totally black that I would have liked. They told me that if I got more I would find more blacks, but they are wilder. Same thing I do next time, there they are called blue or red, because at a certain time of day it seems that they give off a beam with those tones; very nice But either they were very shy or very savage, or they did not want me to approach them or they told me that they felt sorry for them.”

His remarks were met with the appropriate backlash and he was forced to explain his comments, claiming that he did not mean to cause any offense or to hurt anybody’s feelings. Following his apology, the Mexican media appeared to forgive him for his flippant remarks, and giving a voice to the voiceless was once again at the forefront.
