He was a Decorated High School Player

New Mexico isn’t exactly known as a hotbed of hoops, but Borrego enjoyed an impressive high school playing career.

Borrego’s mom would drive him across town every morning to Albuquerque Academy, where he starred all four years on the varsity team. Borrego’s teams won two state titles and he earned a reputation for his toughness. In his junior season, Borrego played with a torn ankle ligament in three state playoff games. He would go on to walk on at the University of San Diego, where he appeared in 15 games during his career.
